Diamonds characteristics are defined by their color, cut, clarity, and carat. Diamonds' color are graded on a scale from D all the way to Z. D is considered the highest and Z being the lowest. Diamonds with the color I and beyond is considered to be "fancy" diamonds, meaning that they are tinted with color. Most of the time they look yellowish in color. These type of diamonds are considered to be "below normal" just the color characteristics make the diamonds to have less value and price. The same applies to the diamonds' clarity, cut and carat. For instance, diamonds' clarity is graded on a scale from IF (Internally Flawless) all the way to I (Inclusions). Diamonds with SI clarity and below tend to have less value and price because these diamonds have blemishes and flaws that are more easily visible when compared to other diamonds with SI (Slightly Included) clarity and up. So below normal diamonds are those that possess the lesser qualities in terms of the 4 C's.

1/21/2020 0 Comments Which Cut is better?Diamonds' cut are usually determined by the original shape of the original diamonds. Most gemologists will try to cut the diamonds based on the original cut of the diamonds and location of any inclusions, if any. The gemologists will consider these factors before they begin the process of shaping the diamonds.
They will try to cut the diamonds to the best advantage of the diamonds, for instance, cutting the diamonds in a way that the inclusions or flaws are strategically positioned, like near the girdle or the culet. This is because when these flaws are located near the girdle or culet, when consumers purchase the loose stones and have the diamonds set in a prong, the clasps of the prongs will hide the flaws, making them not visible. Diamonds with serious flaws that are located near the girdle or the culet tend to cost less even though when the stones are eventually mounted on the prongs, they are not noticeable. The most popular cut is still considered the Brilliant Round cut. Why is this so popular? The modern round cut diamonds consists of 58 facets or 57 if the culet is excluded; 33 on the crown and 25 on the pavilion. The girdle may be frosted, polished smooth or faceted. While the round brilliant cut is considered standard for diamond, with its shape and proportions nearly constant, the choice of fancy cut is influenced heavily by fashion. For example, the baguette cut which accentuates a diamond's luster, whiteness, and clarity but downplays its fire was highly popular during the Art Decor period, whereas the Princess cut which accentuates a diamond's fire and brilliance rather than its luster is currently gaining popularity. The princess cut is also popular among st diamond cutters: of all the cuts, it wastes the least of the original crystal. Then there are other fancy cuts such as the Asscher, Cushion, Oval, Marquise, Emerald, Pear, and Heart. The most popular cut for diamonds however still remain to be the Round Brilliant Cut and the Princess Cut. The brilliant round cut diamonds are the top diamond seller, followed by the princess cut. 11/6/2019 0 Comments Which Diamond clarity is good?Diamonds' clarity is graded on a scale from IF (Internally Flawless) to I (Inclusions).
While most diamonds' flaws or inclusions are not visible under the naked eye, it greatly affects the prices on diamonds. Diamonds with IF clarity are extremely rare therefore making it the most expensive diamonds. While shopping for diamond, my minimum clarity is SI, which is a step above I. Diamonds with SI clarity can cost considerably less. If you are careful in selecting the diamonds with flaws that are strategically located, it might give you more room to move up on the other characteristics, such as Cut and Color. Diamonds with flaws that are strategically located near the girdle or culet are the best because when the loose stones are set on the prongs, the clasps on the prongs will hide these flaws making them less noticeable unless viewed under a 10 x magnification. 9/20/2019 0 Comments What color Diamond is Ideal?Diamond colors are graded on a scale from D all the way to Z.
D is the highest color on the scale as these diamonds are the most colorless. Diamonds with I and beyond color are considered to be "Fancy" diamonds as they are colored, mostly by yellow hues. D, E and F color diamonds are considered to be the Top Tier, while G, H and I are considered to be the Second Tier. While diamonds in the same color group can differ slightly by price, when there is a jump in color from Group 1 to Group 2, there is a substantiate price difference. For instance, a diamond with a D color versus a diamond with an I color, can vary greatly in terms of price. Other diamond colors are FA or FC which are not even supposed to be considered diamonds at all. They are very colored stones and most of them have yellowish hues. These are sometime called Fancy Diamonds. 8/15/2019 0 Comments Which diamond should be avoided?Diamonds come in various characteristics. Diamonds are in general characterized by the 4 Cs. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. As we discussed before, diamonds with the Color D to I are considered to be above average diamonds, while diamonds with the color I and beyond are considered to be "fancy" diamonds, which has less quality, value and price. The same applies to the rest of the 3 Cs. Diamonds which have IF to I clarity are considered above average, while diamonds with I clarity are considered to be less in value and price. It all really depends on your budget. Some people want the biggest stone for their budget while some want a more balanced diamonds in terms of the 4 Cs. If you want to be able to resell your diamonds in the future, always buy diamonds with at least I color, SI clarity, Good Cut, and sizeable carat weight. Diamonds can be very large however if they are poorly cut, has below I color, and I clarity, they will have a poor apperance. The diamonds will not look sparkly, brilliant or colorless. Many people will not care as long as the diamond stones look large. However for those people that understand about diamond, they'd rather have a more balanced characteristics in the diamonds. So me personally, I would avoid diamonds with below I color, I clarity and poorly cut diamonds. Carat is the least important factor when I choose my diamonds. Also, if you are like me, who cannot tell a fake diamonds from the real ones, please try to purchase diamonds with certificates. This certificates will guarantee the authenticity of the diamonds, especially when the diamonds's certificate are from well known and established diamond laboratories such as GIA, AGSL, EGL or IGI. It's a better assurance for most people. |
